FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - About INSTALLATION

IS ECONOKIT FITTED FOR MY ENGINE ?

Econokit Standard and Econokit Pro are fitted for all diesel engines:
- Naturally aspired and turbocharged engines
- Mechanical fuel-injection pumps
- Common rail
- Injector-pump

Econokit Gas is fitted for all gasoline engines:
- Carburetor
- Mechanic fuel-injection pumps
- Electronic fuel-injection pumps
- Single point injection
- Multi point injection
- Direct injection

Econokit Gas is also fitted for the new generation of turbocharged gasoline engine
(THP, TCe, TFSI etc...)

HOW DO I KNOW IF ECONOKIT WILL FIT INTO MY ENGINE ?

Depending on the size of engine you will require a Standard or a Pro kit.
The installation requires positioning of the reservoir/bubbler within a 1 meter hose length of the reactor which is secured to the hottest accessible part of the exhaust manifold.
The diffuser needs to be inserted in the inlet tract; on petrol engines this needs to be after the throttle butterfly and on a diesel turbo it needs to be as close as possible to the turbocharger inlet.

The reservoir/bubbler sizes are as follows:

  • Standard 20 x 10 x 8 cm

  • Pro 22 x 15 x 10 cm

The reservoir needs to be placed where it can be topped up and close to a heat source (behind radiator or adjacent to a radiator or heater hose).

Note that sensible clearances will of course be needed to avoid trapping of items due to engine movement etc.

WHAT SIZE OF HOLE IS REQUIRED FOR THE DIFFUSER ?

This depends on the instalation, for the Standard Econokit it requires a 2 mm hole for petrol engines and a 12 mm hole for Diesel engines and for the Econokit Pro (for large Diesel engines only) the diffuser hole is 16 mm.

CAN I HURT MY ENGINE BY FLOODING IT WITH WATER ?

As long as Econokit is correctly installed the engine can only draw in moist air. The only possible way that can be imagined for water to enter the engine would be if the reservoir was inverted, upside down. This is not possible.

ONCE ECONOKIT HAS BEEN INSTALLED CAN IT BE REMOVED ?

Yes it can be removed simply as it is installed mainly with clips and straps. The hole for the diffuser can be blanked off with duct tape or similar solution.

It is of course possible to fit the Econokit to another vehicle providing you can obtain some more suitable straps and the hose lengths are correct.

WHAT TRACES ON THE ENGINE AFTER REMOVAL?

HOW LONG IS THE INSTALLATION ?

Depending on the engine accessibility it may require 2 to 4 hours.

DOES ECONOKIT NEED ELECTRICAL POWER TO WORK ?

Econokit does not need electrical power to work unless your engine requires a heater probe to keep the water in the tank at the right temperature. If necessary then the automatic regulated heater probe needs to be connected to the battery (100W only).
